    Class Skills Empty Class Skills

When you create your character, you'll need to figure out what skills you want them to have. See the Classes and Promotions topic for more information on that.

There are three kinds of Skills: Passive Skills, Active Skills, and Special Active Skills.

Passive Skills are skills that either constantly apply to your character or trigger on their own, without you needing to decide to activate them. Something like Vantage, for example.

Active Skills are skills that are only usable when you choose to activate them. When you use an Active skill, you give up on using any other type of "Action" during the turn. See How Combat Works for details.

Special Active Skills are like active skills, except they are activated as part of an "Action" rather than being their own "Action".

Most Active and Special Active skills will have a cooldown and/or requirement associated with them, but there is also a hard limit on 1 Special Active per turn, and you must wait at least 1 full round between Special Actives regardless of their individual cooldowns.

Something like Aether, for example, would be a Special Active Skill you choose to activate when you make your attack. In other words, it is made as part of your "Attack Action".

One important distinction between this system and the games is that here, no skill will ride on a % chance to activate. Skills like Aether, Luna, Sol, etc. will only trigger when you decide to trigger them. However, because they are now reliable in this manner, their effects have been nerfed to compensate.

Depending on the Tier of your class, the Skills it has access to will differ in strength. Base Class Skills, for example, are meant to be weaker than Advanced Class Skills, which in turn should be weaker than Paragon Class Skills, the strongest of the bunch.
